Lion and Eagle …what’s this I feel? Could it be a touch of moe?
It’s another wacky chapter of the cute animal civil war story! It’s hard to say who my favorite character is because I like all the characters so much for their individual quirks. In terms of a pair, though, Lion and Eagle are easily my favorite.

This chapter ends the opening arc of the story. Next in the story, I can honestly say I haven’t got a clue, but I’m sure it will adorably side-splitting. I hope Mochi gets a cover or does a color image soon. These cute furries deserve some special treatment. Also, the story needs a speaking reptile of some sort…hmm…but what kind would be good?
The California Condor!
In this chapter a new character “Condor” is introduced. The California Condor is near and dear to the hearts of some of us San Diegans who were bombarded in the 80’s by the news of the California Condor’s near extinction. In 1987 the 22 known remaining California Condors were captured and put into a captive breeding program at the San Diego Wild Animal Park (now called “The Safari Park”) and the LA Zoo. It was rough going for them. They were released back into the wild in 1991 and now there are around 400 known birds.
If you would like to know a little more about the California Condor, here’s a nice web page from the San Diego Zoo about them. (Link) If you want to know more than a little something, follow the links within that web page. The story of how the species was revived is quite interesting. Oh, and here’s a link to them on Wikipedia too. (Link) The birds aren’t much to look at close up, but they are, as Mochi-sensei points out, “The Rulers of the Sky” (They are HUGE birds and they can soar forever).
Next up is the second “The Scarecrow of Oz” one-shot to prepare us for the short 3-chapter long short series that will we present in April.
Ah, who would've thought this would be such a good series..lol. ^_^
It was a very amusing chapter. I knew what was going to happen as soon as they mentioned the catnip, but it was still good. So random. And Condor is awesome! He might be my favorite character.
“Tell him 'You're Welcome'!”
“You're Welcome…..”
Lion-kun better not pick on Condor OR Eagle-kun anymore! ::shakes fist::
But.. I do adore Lion-kun as well!!
Thank you!
WTH why do i like every character that get introduced in this?!
Condor was freaking HILARIOUS!! XD XD
And the plot twist at the end was so random! Where did that little Panda come from?! I don't want to think! :X
I like all the characters to far. Lion and Eagle is the first time I've ever felt yaoi moe. Dormouse is a tough girl, so how could I not adore her. Rabbit is stoopid but means well. The zebra always wants to give rides, even though zebras have proven untamable in real life, which makes him adorable. Lesser Jr. and Okapi are cute and optimistic, and kangaroo is the shit. And then on the other side there's the banana crazy yakuza monkeys and Gorilla, the new character, Condor, is cute even though he looks badass and is called “Ruler of the Sky.” Also, after reading up on the California condor, I see that real condor's are “soft spoken.” (That's just so neat) Oh, and Orii the bat was so handsome and mysterious…I could go on! I love everything about this series. It's too bad it's bi-monthly.
Very nice.
As for your question, the series lacks a reptile, but it also lacks a slightly crazy old person who is wise but uses that to take advantage of everyone.
Considering giant tortoises and tuataras are both reptiles and can both live extremely long times, easily over 100 years, either would be a good choice for such a character. It would certainly provide a lot of comedy opportunities.
Giant tortoises are zoo staples, which is both an advantage and a disadvantage. Tuataras like to sunbathe and have a third “eye” (light-sensitive patch) on top of their heads that could provide for some interesting mechanics in the story. It would also be easier to anthropomorphize a tuatara. So I would lean towards that.
@Anonymous — I love the idea of a crafty ancient turtle! That would be so much fun!
If that meets strange enough the prominent figures.
But one sees interesting that they are so different
This was a very cute chapter…I really do like this series…I picture a sarcastic bearded dragon spouting words of wisdom…
Ah this was so funny!
I came across these chapters today and in your first post, you said half the people who read this could hate it. Seeing that, I thought I should skip this series (usually I hate comedy that doesn't make sense) but this was hilarious!
Thank you so much for scanlating this!
