Online Japanese Dictionaries

Are you finding that your paper dictionaries don’t have half of the words you are looking for when you are translating manga? Well, here are some suggestions for you. In the course of struggling through translating, I have found some online resources that have been a great help to me. The most helpful I’ve found so far is a website called “Tangorin.” It’s by far the deepest online dictionary resource I’ve found so far. It even has many of the idiomatic words in its database. This dictionary contains several examples of word usage (20+), breakdowns of the kanji, a list … Continue reading Online Japanese Dictionaries

Ouran 74 is out in Lala 10

08/25/2009 Update: I have only 7 more pages to edit and then proofing. I also have a couple of bubbles with iffy translations that I want to ruminate on some more. Anyhow, the editing is taking longer than usual because there are a lot of sounds, especially the dogs!!! OMG!!! I’m getting a real Photoshop workout! On almost every page I had to repair the artwork around some hiragana/katana that I replaced with English! There … Continue reading Ouran 74 is out in Lala 10

Anyhow, I hope they get a clue soon and work with some of the fansub groups to get series out to the US simultaneously with Japan so we all can have a legal win-win-win situation (like Crunchyroll). As for “Canaan”, I guess I’ll skip it since I can only watch up to episode 3. Since I won’t have … Continue reading Showgate Going After People for Sharing "Canaan"

VB Rose ?

I got a comment from Zing Mei this morning requesting VB Rose translation. Volumes 1 -5 are out in English from Tokyo Pop. I checked for volume 6 on Amazon and it looks like the manga is being discontinued. Scanning the web quickly, it looks like Tokyo Pop is having some problems and has restructured and changed strategy, though, I’m not sure what to – their website, though “Flashy,” is nearly unusable. Plus, they’ve even discontinued some of their top selling titles (“Karin” for instance — and there is only one more volume left !!!???) Anyhow, back to V.B. Rose … Continue reading VB Rose ?
