Japanese Woodblock Prints at the San Diego Museum of Art

Today I went to the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park with Omari to see the “Dreams and Diversions” exhibit.  This exhibit features Japanese woodblock prints from 250-years ago to the present.  A majority of the prints were from two artists named Hakusai (1760 – 1849) and Hiroshige (1797-1858).  The prints featured were the first examples of mass produced postcards.  These postcards were sold at key points along the road from Kyoto to Edo (now Tokyo) as a way to remember the trip. I bought a couple of postcard books from the gift shop as souvenirs of the … Continue reading Japanese Woodblock Prints at the San Diego Museum of Art

Magnolia Chapter 6

It’s another cruel chapter of “Magnolia”…this one is only 28 pages and as one of my proofreaders pointed out, the second page is a repeat. Boo! But it’s a really good chapter and sets up for what I hope to be a thrilling volume 2. Links to Magnolia Chapter 6:  (Zip)(PDF) Spoilers Ahead — My thoughts on the chapter:Poor, poor, Nagi.  Nothing good can come of this for him.  Ayato is nutz, Yugo is relentless, and poor Nagi has his own heart to worry about.  But I think that’s what makes this situation delicious.  What is poor Nagi going to … Continue reading Magnolia Chapter 6

Happy New Year from Your Favorite Lala and Lala DX Mangakas!

Here are some New Year’s messages from some of the artist featured in Lala and Lala DX magazine.  I didn’t have time to translate the messages and I don’t know if I will find time soon.   Anyhow, if you can’t read Japanese, then look at the pretty pictures and imagine that each one of them says “Happy New Year” + “Let’s do our best in the New Year”, because that pretty much sums them up (although a few are a little more personal and describe a major event for them in the 2010.) Anyhow…click on the images to see a … Continue reading Happy New Year from Your Favorite Lala and Lala DX Mangakas!

"Kimi ni XOXO" Chapter 4

“Kimi ni XOXO” is back for the final two chapters.  I’m sorry it’s been a while since a release, but this chapter was really hard to clean (poor quality raw) and had a lot of redrawing to do.  Because of the difficulty I want to acknowledge the contributions of Chiresakura who helped clean and Ichigo Stars who did all of the difficult redraws.  Without them, this chapter wouldn’t have come out nearly as well as it did. Links to “Kimi ni XOXO” chapter 4:  (Zip) (PDF) I wanted to release chapter 5 right after chapter 4, but again because of … Continue reading "Kimi ni XOXO" Chapter 4

"In Jack Out" Update

“In Jack Out” will be presented in two parts in Betsuhana 2 and 3.  Considering that February is shot, I think I will save “In Jack Out” until both parts are released in Japanese.  I’m also on the fence about doing the project.  The first part of the story doesn’t catch my eye.  I think I will know after the second half whether I want to do the mini-series.  If I  decide to do the series, then I will present the entire 92-page story after February.  This means that Orange Chocolate goes back on the schedule and we will check-up … Continue reading "In Jack Out" Update
